Mike Fontenot has been something of a forgotten man in Cubs camp this spring as he battles with Ronny Cedeno, Alex Cintron and Eric Patterson for a roster spot as a backup infielder.

His .397 month last June was a long time ago, but with a three-run homer in the third inning of the Cubs' Cactus League opener Thursday and a triple in the eighth, Fontenot served notice he's still around.

'I don't know how forgotten he has been around us,' Ryan Theriot said. 'You really can't dispute what he did last year for a few months. He arguably carried us [in June]. We all know what he's capable of, and it's just so much fun to watch him go out there and hit.' Read more
