Tottenham Are the Carling Cup Champions 2007/08 - Video

Posted by footynut on February 24th, 2008

Carling Cup 2007/08 Tottenham Hotspurs are the Carling Cup Champs this season after edging out Chelsea 2-1 with the winning goal scored by Jonathan Woodgate in extra-time.I predicted yesterday that Spurs will lift the title and i’m glad it came true even though there was an early scare when Didier Drogba scored from a freekick in the first half.

Woodgate met Jermaine Jenas’s floated free-kick in the 94th minute to claim former Sevilla coach Juande Ramos’s fourth major cup trophy in three seasons only months after arriving at the north London club.

The Blues took the lead late in the first half from Didier Drogba’s curled free-kick before Dimitar Berbatov’s calmly-taken penalty on 70 minutes.

I was disgusted by Pascal Chimbonda’s attitude in the 62nd minute when he was substituted by Ramos, he totaly showed disrespect to Spurs, their fans and the players by waking straight down the tunnel, pushing away a member of the Spurs backroom staff.

What’s up with French defenders? yesterday it was Gallas today it’s Chimbonda.

Anywayz a big congrats to Spurs who i think deserve to win in the end.

Posted by Marija on February 24th, 2008

Maria Sharapova wins Qatar Total Open in DohaWorld No.5 Maria Sharapova needed three sets to beat fellow Russian Vera Zvonareva 6-1, 2-6, 6-0 for the Qatar Total Open title, but the important thing is she won and kept her perfect season intact as she extended her match record this year to 14-0.

This is Sharapova’s second title at Doha, previously she won the tournament in 2005. Also, it’s her 18th career title and second of the year following her triumph at the Australian Open last month.

The fourth-seeded Sharapova quickly took the first set against unseeded Zvonareva, but it was not to be another easy win for Sharapova. World No.27 Zvonareva dominated the second set thanks to just three unforced errors, but things completely turned against her in the third. Sharapova gained a quick break for a 1-0 lead and broke again at love in the third game. Zvonareva never recovered, winning a total of just eight points in the decisive set.

The 23-year-old Zvonareva played her second final of the season, and was trying for her sixth singles title.

Winning the Qatar Total Open, Sharapova earned $414,000, while Zvonareva took home $211,000. (via Sports Network)

Manchester United’s big name players delivered the goods as they moved to within three points of Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table with a scintillating 5-1 win at St. James’ Park.

Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo scored two goals apiece and Louis Saha added a fifth in stoppage time as United took full advantage of the Gunners’ 2-2 slip-up at Birmingham earlier in the day.

Newcastle got a consolation from Abdoulaye Faye while 3-0 down but they continue their dangerous slide towards the relegation zone as they remain winless since Kevin Keegan returned to the club.
